Applications are invited by the Director, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry – 605006 from eligible candidates for the following Faculty posts :
Professor : 22 posts, Pay Scale : Rs.37400-67000 + GP Rs.10500/-
Assistant Professor : 39 posts, Pay Scale : Rs.15600-39100 + GP Rs.8000/-

General Instructions:
1. The crucial date for Age limit and experience will be the last date of receipt of application i.e.14.04.2014.
2. All future vacancies up to a period of 1 year arising out of resignation, retirement etc., will be filled up from the merit list drawn based on the recommendation of Standing Selection Committee to be held against this advertisement
3. Applicants already employed in Central/State Govt./Autonomous Institutions / Statutory Organizations/ PSUs under Central/ State Govt. should route their applications through proper channel. Pay, GPF, Leave Encashment etc. if any are to be settled from the previous employer on selection before joining this Institution.
4. Application for the post shall be in the prescribed proforma available in the JIPMER website (www.jipmer.edu.in). It shall be accompanied by certified copies of educational qualification and experience, Certificate of date of Birth and other documents, duly attested.
5. Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply. The Institute reserves the right to decide the number of posts to be filled up.
6. Application incomplete in any respect or received after due date i.e. 14.04.2014 or without application fee will be summarily rejected. The Institute will not be responsible for any postal delays and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
7. Selection for the posts of Professor & Assistant Professor will be held by conducting an interview which is likely to be held in the month of May 2014, for which date and time will be intimated to the eligible candidates by email only, the same will be published in the JIPMER website (www.jipmer.edu.in). No communication would be sent by post.
8. TA (second class Railway Fare) will be paid to SC/ST candidates only.
9. A Demand Draft in favour of the Accounts Officer, JIPMER, Puducherry payable at State Bank of India, JIPMER Branch, Puducherry-605006, towards the examination fee (non-refundable fee), and Rs.500/ for General & OBC category & Rs.250/ for SC/ST category) should be attached with application downloaded from the website. The duly filled in application form, with all necessary enclosures should reach the Office of the Director, Danvanthri Nagar Post, JIPMER, Puducherry – 605 006 on or before 14.04.2014.

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) can trace its origins to the ‘Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry’ established by the French Government in 1823.The college was located in the modified buildings of the High Court, which is now the Legislative Assembly Hall.In 1956, The Ambassador of France laid the foundation stone of our ‘new’ medical college that was located on the outskirts of Pondicherry town.In the wake of the ‘de facto’ transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India, the college was briefly named Dhanvantri Medical College, before being upgraded to a Regional Postgraduate Centre under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (DGHS), Government of India and renamed JIPMER.The then President of India Dr. S. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the hospital and the outpatient buildings on 13 July 1964.In July 2008, JIPMER was given the status of an Institution of National Importance by an Act of Parliament, on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. The increase in financial outlay has been translated into an all-round development of the institution with an increase in number of staff, students and services.On 15 October 2008, the former President of India, Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam along with Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss inaugurated the super-specialty block, the trauma care centre and the auditorium and dedicated JIPMER to the nation as an institution of national importance.The present expansion of JIPMER (Phase II) has seen the development of the JIPMER Women and Children’s Hospital, the JIPMER Academic Centre, the new hostel complex for undergraduates and postgraduates and a common wellness centre including a gymnasium, dining hall and other amenities.JIPMER seeks to be a model for health systems in India through innovations in education, patient-oriented research, population health and service excellence.To develop compassionate, ethically sound health professionals and provide service of the highest order across the health care continuum, through Innovations in education that yield lifelong learners and leaders in health care.Original research in basic sciences and patient oriented discoveries.Encouraging creative young minds to reach their fullest potential.Clinical transformation across the organization that is patient centered, safe, effective, accountable and transparent.Emphasis on quality and value in all endeavours.Partnerships with organizations encompassing congruent ideals.Advocacy for community wellness and public health with a focus on socio-economic disparities.Under the twelfth five year plan JIPMER aims to set up a school of Public Health and Establishment of an Institute of training for Health workforce for an outlay of 150 crores rupees. It is expected that we hope to produce a well trained workforce to implement all the public health programmes throughout the country. The establishment of an Institute of Allied Health Sciences which will focus on Paramedical Courses will add to health manpower strengthening in the country.As the prevalence of non-communicable diseases has started increasing in India, a Centre of Research, Training and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases is also planned. In addition to the augmentation of undergraduate and postgraduate seats in the various U.G/P.G and super specialty courses it is planned to start an institute of Dental Sciences and an institute of pharmaceutical sciences. JIPMER will reinforce its place as innovator in the field of medical education with the opening of Center for Health Profession Education and Curricula Reform and the Centre for E-Learning, M-Learning and Distance Education/Skill Labs.The unparalled hospital service given by JIPMER will be embellished by the introduction of services in newer super-specialty, and specialty areas like Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Foetal Medicine, Medical Genetics, Neonatology, etc. In addition separate units/departments/centre such as Advanced Neuro-Vascular Unit, Development of Advanced Pediatric Centre, Upgraded Critical Care in Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Palliative Care Centre of the Department of Anesthesiology and Neonatal Anesthesiology, Clinical Immunology, Interventional Medicine, Laser Urological Services , Endo-Urology Services, Robotic Surgery, Stereotactic Surgery, Nuclear Imaging Technology such as PET Scan, Breast Clinic, Vascular Surgery Unit, Minimally Invasive Surgery unit, Centre of Renal Sciences Centre of Endocrinology etc., will be set up for an expenditure of 200 crores.An additional 50 crores will be spent on up-gradation of Trauma Care and Burns unit, setting up of an Artificial Limb Centre, advanced wound therapy and research centre, Laser Cosmetology Centre and Centre for Dermato-Surgery. JIPMER will enhance its outreach by providing services to the rural areas with the setting up of eight outreach centers at an expenditure of 20 crores.There are plans for setting up of Organ Retrieval and Banking Organization (ORBO) including Cadaveric Liver Transplant, Corneal and Retinal Services, Eye Bank, Bone Bank and Organ Transplantation Center and the Establishment of Department of Transfusion Medicine for 50 crores.Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling about 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER is 170 kms by road from Chennai.JIPMER has been declared as an Institution of National Importance by a Parliamentary Act, i.e. JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was Gazette notified on 14-7-2008 to enforce this Act. Prior to this the Institute was functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc., under the clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act.
